Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula
What does your family look like
I have an 8 year old, Camron! He is full of spunk and a constant reminder of the brighter side of humanity. He is always asking questions I do not have answers to so we try to figure them out, continuously learn, grow, fall short, and explore together. The other part of my family is my partner Chris. He works hard at what he loves to do, and his passion is contagious. He is selfless when it comes to helping others. He will stop what he is doing to reach his hand out. He walks the walk AND talks the talk. There’s a running joke between him and I in which I call him “Mayor Chris” because everywhere we go he is talking to everyone. When I am having a rough day he knows how to somehow bring me back to the “why” of it all, and puts it all in perspective for me.
What does your perfect day look like?
Wake up, yoga at sunrise. Then start the day with a nice cup of bulletproof coffee while reading on a hammock, and listening to music outside in backyard, relaxing in the sunshine, and hitting a nature trail to go exploring. Pot luck dinner with friends outside enjoying yummy food, laughs, and weird conversation, followed up by a bonfire to get mesmerized in. Simple and so satisfying!
What an achievement you're proud of?
Being a person in recovery and using that life experience to do my best to reach out to others who are struggling. I know that feeling all too well; Asking for help was by far the hardest thing I have ever done mentally, physically, and emotionally. At the core of my being I believe we all have to go through things in order to GROW through them and make an imprint it this world. What may be the “worst” thing ever right now, could end up being the “best” thing that ever happened. This was my experience.
What's your ideal vacation?
Anywhere outside of the US. where I can get uncomfortable and get immersed in other cultures. If I had to stay in the US, Mountains!! Out west, the landscape is amazing!!
What are your short term & long term goals?
Short term goals: Prenatal Yoga teacher training, vacation next winter/spring.
Long-term goals: Master’s in public health, Working with pregnant woman living with substance use and/or mental health, or may be incarcerated making sure they have the same birthing experience as anyone else.
What's your favorite part of being a part of the LLDS team?
The amazing humans I get to work with! Getting to witness birth and the strength of every family we work with is such a privilege and an honor. I learn so much from each family and take away so much from every experience. I have to remind mind myself this is my “job.” I love it!
One thing I want people to know about me:
I am human; without “you” there is no “me.”
