Claire Dixon
Certified lactation counselor
Hello!Claire is a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) who is passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based support to help families reach their unique feeding goals. She earned her CLC credential in 2021 and holds a Bachelor's degree in Interpersonal Communication from Bowling Green State University and a Master's in Education from Loyola University Chicago. Claire combines her background in education with her love of supporting new parents, empowering families with knowledge, encouragement, and practical guidance.
After spending more than a decade working in higher education, becoming a mother inspired Claire to pursue a new path. As she navigated her own breastfeeding journey, she saw friends and fellow parents struggle to find trustworthy, judgment-free support. Determined to make a difference, she completed her lactation training during the pandemic and transitioned her career toward helping families feel informed, confident, and cared for throughout their feeding journeys.
Claire is especially passionate about providing guilt- and shame-free care. She believes there is no one "right" way to feed a baby—only the approach that best supports each family's goals, values, and circumstances. Rather than asking families to fit a predetermined plan, Claire meets them where they are, offering individualized support rooted in compassion, respect, and evidence-based information.
As both a lactation professional and a mother, Claire understands firsthand that every feeding journey is unique. She breastfed her first son for approximately 17 months and has experienced the joys, challenges, and learning curves that come with nursing. She was also a Live Light Birth & Family client herself, receiving doula support during her own pregnancies and births. Those experiences deepened her appreciation for the power of compassionate, knowledgeable care and continue to shape the support she provides today.
Claire is committed to practicing with honesty and integrity. If the evidence on a topic is limited, she'll say so. If she doesn't know an answer, she'll find it. Whether that means researching the latest evidence or connecting families with trusted specialists, her priority is ensuring clients have the accurate, up-to-date information they need to make confident decisions for themselves and their babies.
When she's not supporting families, Claire enjoys exploring Detroit's parks on long walks with her family, sailing and relaxing at the Detroit Yacht Club, trying local restaurants, tending her backyard garden, and cooking with fresh ingredients she grows herself.
